A Short Trip To Coorg

We started early (if 6:30 AM can be called that) for the Coorg trip. By noon, we were already driving (being driven) on the lush, serpentine, hilly roads. The weather was bearably warm, though it tended to get very humid during the evening. Great gray clouds were seen rolling over distant, misty hills. But their destination was obviously some other faraway land. Learned from the coffee estate owners there that the rains have eluded Coorg so far and most of them have had to rely on the brooks/streams/ponds in their estate to water their plantations.

Saw coffee plants for the first time and learned to distinguish between the Arabica and the Robusta varieties. Saw how cardamom and pepper are grown and sampled a bit of both right off their respective plants! Saw a water fall (Abbey falls) and walked till the microbes living on my skin thought that they were inhabiting one.

We started back for Bangalore quite late (if 11:30 AM can be called that). The shortcut our driver took, brought us on a patch that was being tarred afresh. A complete stranger came to our rescue and allowed us to take the car through a dirt-track that ran through his estate. Some 40 km later we were stranded in a jam caused by a tree that had just been felled to broaden the road.

By the time we hit the Mysore-Bangalore highway, it was so hot that we could see mirages on the road. As a car would race ahead of us, we would see it reflect in a non-existent puddle of water on the road; half expecting it to cause a splash. My wife recounted an old cartoon she had seen on TV about an Arab and his camel stranded in a desert. They chase mirage after mirage and get so disappointed that when they actually stumble upon water in an oasis, such is their disbelief, that they walk right into it and drown. Just the sort of note I should end this brief travelogue on!

Photofriday: The Road

Photofriday: The RoadPhotofriday: The Road

On the road to Shimoga I noticed the cover of the Mariza CD reflect in the windscreen. I learnt that a spell of rain can greatly enhance the melancholy that Fado often exudes.

Hey Deepak, I see something wrong with this picture.

  1. If I assume that the CD is placed on the dashboard of the vehicle, it means that you are going on the wrong side :)

  2. If I assume that the CD is placed at the rear of the back seats, the cycle wallas are on the wrong side

I tried seeing the mirror image by flipping the photo in photoshop, still doesn’t make sense

There are other colors too

There are other colors tooThere are other colors too

My fascination for the color blue has been so strong that I am certain its source is genetic. There was a time when I had every perceivable shade of blue in my wardrobe (that’s what I call a wardrobe malfunction”). I would pick two shirts with a barely perceivable difference in shade, and purchase them against the opinion of the salesman who would insist that the two are exactly the same. My take on the popular verse taught in kindergarten was this:

Roses are red
Violets are blue
How I wish
Roses were too
(I mean blue)

Taking photography a bit more seriously, remedied this situation a bit and I began to appreciate other colors. But a real reform — one whose scope extends to the wardrobe — came about after I made my acquaintance with this certain someone. This post goes out to that lady whose love for mustard, orange and maroon has been somewhat infectious.

Five blue shirts in a washing machine
Spinning in an old and boring routine
Along came a maroon one from the wife
And said to the blue lot dudes get a life!”

Coffee Bean Tan

Coffee Bean TanCoffee Bean Tan

We roast to perfection” reads a promotional brochure at Costa Coffee in Connaught Place, New Delhi. It is barely April but outside the sun insists on repeating the barista’s feat on unsuspecting visitors from cooler parts of the country. I miss Bangalore (hence this picture taken at Lal Bagh during the flower show on Republic Day) and wonder if I will acquire a coffee-bean tan by the time I return next week.

Since you are still using the blogger system… you could have migrated (can migrate) your entire blog from the blogspot onto your site provided your image hosting is not on blogger too otherwise u need to update.

The comments stay and u don’t lost them.

I did that.. and then u re-take your blogspot address and add a redirect on that to this location…

Hi Dr. Kishore,

I’ve been on blogger for 3 years. The blog had originally started as a regular text-only” blog. In Oct 2004 I got a camera and started putting pictures occasionally. About a year later, once I got a DSLR, it became a photoblog. The blog has seen 3 different styles of blogging and some 5 odd templates. Now for some reasons I had been yearning to start afresh minus the historical baggage and therefore the new blog.

In fact, I wanted to take the extreme step of deleting the archives altogether and leaving just a redirect to the new address but settled at letting the archives remain.

Ash

Congrats, Deepak :)

Came across your blog via Inkspill, and I really like your photoss..will be coming back often !

Deepak
